Robert Koropp was born and raised in Chicago and attended Northwestern University, where he received his B.S. in chemistry after serving in the armed forces during World War II. While earning his Master's degree in Chemistry at U.C.L.A., he became very interested in photography as an avocation. He then taught chemistry at Principia College in Illinois for two years and continued to work in photography during this period.

In 1951 he decided that while chemistry was great, photography was really his first love, so he moved to Los Angeles to study photography at the Art Center School. He then returned to Chicago where he worked on major advertising accounts, including Kellogg's, Swift & Co., International Mineral and Chemical, First National Bank, Amoco, Mobil, and Inland Steel, to name a few.

In 1963, he moved to Colorado because he had been skiing there every winter, and while there weren't that many major advertising accounts in Colorado, it was the best place to live and raise a family.
Since settling in Colorado he has worked on advertising accounts, including Honeywell, American Lamb Council, Pentax, Sears, Kellogg's, G.W. Sugar, Kuners, and Safeway. Since 1991 he has become more and more involved in producing limited edition fine arts prints for private and corporate collections.

In 1989, Koropp's award winning book "Denver/The City Rises" was completed with the help of Roy Toma who designed the book, Lito Tejada-Flores, the writer of its text, John Prosser who wrote its insightful and prophetic foreword, and Phyllis Koropp, Bob's wife, who rode herd on the whole project. Subsequently, he did the photography for another book "Space Camp: The Great Adventure for NASA Hopefuls" in collaboration with Anne Baird who wrote the text, and William Morrow who published it in 1992.

In May of 1990 Koropp was invited by the Latvian Photo Art Society to have a one-man show of his work in Riga. Some 10,000 people saw the show while it was there. He had a workshop with the Latvian photographers as well as two more workshops in Estonia, one in Tallin and the other in Tartu. Then in 1991 he had a one-man show in Tallin.

He is a life member of the American Society of Media Photographers, and former member of the board of governors of the Denver Chapter. He is a Master of Photography in the Professional Photographers of America, and has been a speaker at P.P. of A conventions, both in the United States and Canada, as well as judge for P.P. of A. He is also a member of the Colorado Photographic Art Center, and a former director of C.P.A.C. He has been a member of the board of directors of the Asian Arts Association, a support group for the Denver Art Museum, and also a member of the board of directors of the Gilpin County Arts Association. He has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Channel Six auction for the last fourteen or fifteen years. Bob has had some fifty one-man shows since moving to Colorado as well as six TV appearances.
